Our friend, Vic, in San Antonio just sent this photo of the front door. It's upside down here, but we think it looks great. They plan to ship it this week, and we're anxious to see the hardware on it.
The tiling is mostly complete in the boys' bathroom and looks good. Unfortunately, the tile we ordered for our shower is backordered for a 2nd time - to the end of March. The plumber arrived yesterday and should get most of the plumbing done this week. Our countops are to be installed today. Trimwork continues...there is just so much of it to be done, but it's looking beautiful.
The roof has finally been started and yesterday we also saw a glimpse of the siding...we're anxious to see more of it, but the zinc color is going to look very nice with the timbers.
We're getting very tired of being completely unsettled. This is our 4th week of homelessness! The boys are handling it much better than I am...but we're hopeful that we only have one more week of this. Again, we're so grateful for all of our wonderful friends who have taken us in and offered to take us in, as well as to my parents, who have earned their grandparenting merit badges!

I can't wait to see your house pictures when it is all done.I love your ideas and design style.keep posting pictures more frequently
Is there a backstory behind this beautiful door?
Also, what material are you using for kitchen counters?
Hi!
Greg told me about your house-blog. It's been fun looking it over and seeing the progression. Sorry to hear it is taking longer than you planned.
But it looks terrific! I really love it, your home is going to be stunning!
Kudos- and hang in there.
Best,
Amber
the door is made by a friend of ours who was in architecture school with matt. his family has been making doors for generations. our countertops are just formica with a plywood stacked laminate edge. they actually look pretty good - and were very economical. if we had a bigger budget, we could have been a bit more creative/green with them, but these will do for now.
I am a huge fan of formica/laminate for counters because I am all about ease of care. Granite and Corian (been there, done that with both) are soooo high maintenance. I am of the opinion that all of these high maintenance finishes (including hardwood floors in a kitchen!) are a conspiracy to keep women subservient and doing more housework.
And I am only kidding a bit about that. I spend more time caring for my kitchen floors and counters than I do on the rest of the house!
Did you order this door or is it an older/vintage/antique one? What kind of wood?
the door is douglas fir - matt designed it and vic and his crew brought it to fruition. apparantly it was very tricky to stain - each board required a slightly different treatment in order to make it appear even in tone. the hardware is beautiful, too - i'm anxious to see it in place and post pics of it.
We know there is more going on- any chance we can see some photos?
